Guillaume Fauveau's work sits at the crossroads of documentary and a visual style close to cinema. His approach focuses particularly on stories of migration, which he explores through projects rooted in strong human and social contexts. His work at the Pausa migrant reception centre in Bayonne reflects this attention to individual journeys, waiting and lived realities, in an approach that is both sensitive and committed.
At the same time, he has developed a cinema-inspired aesthetic, especially in his press portraits. He pays particular attention to light: chiaroscuro and staging help reveal the presence and uniqueness of his subjects. His work has been shown in several exhibition venues, including the Université Jean Jaurès in Toulouse and DIDAM in Bayonne.
In Hendaye, Guillaume Fauveau presents a series of press portraits: public figures from the Basque Country and musicians, captured in a brief encounter.
« The press portrait, beyond the image, is an encounter, a silent conversation between the photographer and their subject. These looks, these gestures, these presences are a window onto stories of life and art. »
Guillaume Fauveau
Made in a short time, in imposed and often impersonal places, dependent on the sitter's schedule, these portraits do not claim to reveal their subjects' deeper personality. They capture a fragment, a presence, and leave the rest to the imagination.
His series of 15 press portraits in 40x50 cm format is shown in the exhibition Crossed Perspectives #2: Telling the World, at the Mendi Zolan cultural venue (Hendaye), from 16 September to 10 October 2026. Free entry.
