Overview

« Crossed Perspectives #2: Telling the World » is the second edition of this series. Devoted to photojournalism, it is also part of the national celebrations of the Bicentenary of Photography and lays the artistic, cultural and local foundations of our Three Crowns Photography Festival, to be held in spring 2027. Through this theme, the event explores the photographer's role in the face of History, the ethics of the image, and how documentary photography serves the journalist's narrative or fits within a humanist approach.

Programme

A group exhibition bringing together the work of four photographers: Mathieu Ménard, Guillaume Fauveau, Nahia Garat and Isabelle Besson, offering a range of perspectives on today's world:

social change, local and environmental realities, press portraits, issues linked to the sea. The collective's patron Marc Paygnard, last heir of the humanist movement, will also be honoured.

A screening of Raymond Depardon's film « Reporters » (1981), co-organised with the town of Hendaye, will offer a look at the work of the photojournalist and the ethics of the image. A discussion with the audience will follow.

And to close, a talk by the Argia Collective: Humanist photography, origins, golden ages and legacies. This talk revisits the movement not as an archive image, but as a way of seeing that is still ours.

Islada

« Islada », Basque for reflection, traces five summers spent following a travelling summer camp. An immersion in childhood memories, the discovery of independence and the encounters that shape a free youth.

Guillaume Fauveau

Portraits from here

At the crossroads of documentary and a style close to cinema, he works with light and chiaroscuro. His series brings together public figures from the Basque Country, captured in a silent dialogue between photographer and subject.

Time suspended

A former conflict photographer, she tells the story of a train journey across Kerala, in southern India. Time stretching out to the rhythm of the rails, where waiting and contemplation intertwine: not a destination, but a state.

Women of the sea, of salt and of life

For three years he photographed women who make their living from the sea: oyster farmers, fishers, captains. Portraits that bring to mind the sea and those who work it. (Voltaire Prize winner)

A tribute to Marc Paygnard, patron of the Three Crowns Photography Festival

Marc Paygnard copie 2

Sixty years of photojournalism, a tender gaze on ordinary lives. In the centre of the hall, a space will be devoted to our patron and guest of honour at the Three Crowns Photography Festival, Marc Paygnard. A documentary about his work will also play on a loop. A way of keeping his gaze alive until we see him at the Three Crowns Festival.
