Argia, a meaningful word

In Basque, the word Argia means light.

An essential term in photography, but also a powerful symbol for the collective: light as the starting point of seeing, creating and connecting people.

Through this name, the collective expresses its wish to shine a light on places, cultures, stories and unique life paths.

Why create the Argia photography collective

The Argia collective was born from a shared observation: photography is often a solitary practice, yet it benefits from being thought about collectively.

The collective wants to:

  • create a space for exchange between photographers,
  • encourage collaborative projects,
  • promote the passing on of knowledge and mediation around images,
  • give photography a cultural and social dimension.
Argia aims to be a place for encounters, creation and experimentation, open to a wide variety of people.

The collective's first directions

From the outset, the Argia photography collective has set out to develop:

  • collective photography projects,
  • exhibitions and events,
  • educational and social projects,
  • collaborations with cultural and institutional partners.

These projects will evolve with the encounters, wishes and opportunities that come along.
